However, the Queen's evil curse traps her in Storybrooke, Maine, where Snow White lives as Mary Margaret Blanchard, a sweet and introverted elementary school teacher, until the curse is finally lifted and both personalities merge in a single person.

He is the father of Emma Swan and the husband of Snow White. He is a leader among men and a battle-tested warrior entirely worthy of his royal status. He is the ruler of the Enchanted Forest and leader of the Royal Council. When the Queen's curse traps him in Storybrooke, Maine, he lives as David Nolan, a man who had been comatose for years and is married to Kathryn Nolan.

He is a determined pirate captain who was unfortunate enough to humiliate and anger the feared Rumplestiltskin, who ripped the heart out of his beloved Milah and cut off his hand. This led Jones to seek revenge against the Dark One, including being granted the right to stay young by traveling to Neverland, and teaming up with the fearsome and powerful Cora to make his way to Storybrooke, where Rumple currently lives. However, Killian ultimately forms an alliance of sorts with Emma Swan, and this develops into a romantic relationship, the pursuit of which allows the ferocious pirate to become a true hero.

Henry is the biological son of protagonist Emma Swan, and the adopted son of antagonist Regina Mills. A lonely boy, Henry came to believe that the people living in his small town were under the effect of a powerful curse that robbed them of their memories of their past identities as fairytale characters. This led him to look up his birth mother, whom he knew to be the key to everyone's salvation.

Rumple was once a normal man turned evil by the Dark One's magic. After losing his son, he became obsessed with making deals, and, more so, collecting in on them, most of which aided his ultimate goal of being reunited with Baelfire. In the town of Storybrooke, Maine, after casting of the Dark Curse, Rumplestiltskin lives as Mr. Gold, the enigmatic owner of the local pawn shop, as well as the town itself. Gold remains aware of his life before the curse and plays a key role in breaking it so that he can leave town and find Bae, with his need to satisfy revenge often getting in his own way and leading to events such as him providing the town with magic, which he views as power. However, unforeseen circumstances lead to Baelfire's death, and Rumple is left at a loss. His thirst for power could be his undoing, threatening dearly the relationship he has with his true love Belle.

Belle was chosen by Rumplestiltskin to pose as his caretaker in exchange for her family's well-being during the Ogre Wars, and eventually the two of them fell in love. Regina then kidnapped Belle before she enacted the Dark Curse and Belle became trapped in the town of Storybrooke, Maine as Belle Gold (née French), kept away from society inside a mental asylum. Shortly before the curse is broken, Belle is freed and reunites with her beloved former master. Belle is then forced to adjust to a newfound life in Storybrooke with Rumple, who seeks to be a better man for her. However, the fair beauty is tasked with helping him along on the bumpy road to redemption.
