In 1972, Al Copeland Sr founded a spicy and exciting chicken restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana called Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. Today, that restaurant has become a chain of over 2600 eateries in the U.S. and around the world, and it's caught the eye of one of the largest restaurant owners in the world, RBI, Restaurant Brands International, which already owns both Burger King and Tim Hortons. RBI has now purchased Popeyes for $1.8 billion.
In a statement about their purchase RBI made it clear that they're mainly excited to grow the Popeyes brand internationally.
Popeyes is a powerful brand with a rich Louisiana heritage that resonates with guests around the world. We look forward to taking an already strong brand and accelerating its pace of growth, opening new restaurants in the U.S. and around the world.
