Tom Cruise has always been known for his deep bond he shares with his mother, Mary Lee South, often taking her as his date to awards shows and caring for her in her old age. Tragically, she has now passed away at the age of 80. You can see a few of their best moments together here, and then you can read more about her passing below.
Ms. South had suffered from health problems in recent years, but it was still surprising when she died in her sleep last week. Her funeral was attended by Tom and his three sisters, Lee Ann DeVette, Cass Mapother, and Marian Henry.

South was a special ed teacher, but she always encouraged Tom to pursue his passion for acting. In one interview, she said:
We both wholeheartedly agreed [to let him act], because we both felt it was a God-given talent, and he should explore it because he was so enthused about it. So to make a long story short, we gave him our blessing – and the rest is history.
