The owners of Cork Wine Bar in Washington, D.C., Khalid Pitts and his wife Diane Gross, have never sued anyone before. But now, they're about to take on Donald Trump.
According to the wine bar, Donald Trump's hotel bar's presence in Washington, D.C. constitutes unfair competition by stealing customers who want to gain favor with the president. In a recent press conference, Sean Spicer even plugged the hotel and quoted an unnamed lobbyist as saying:
Someone is paying attention to the person who orders the $1,000 bottle of wine.

This would mean that the more money lobbyists and politicians spend in the Trump establishment, the more political favor they gain with his administration because although he is no longer in a leadership role in the Trump Organization, he still owns a lot of stock in it and benefits from its success financially. Pitts and Gross believe this constitutes unfair competition. According to Pitts:
We are not seeking money. We simply want to level the playing field so all D.C. restaurants can complete fairly."

Pitts and Gross say that they will accept one of three solutions in lieu of monetary compensation: for Trump to divest himself from the hotel, for Trump to close the hotel, or for Trump to resign from the office of President of the United States. While they identify as liberals, they say that this is not a political request or a political lawsuit. According to Gross:
It has nothing to do with the policies of the president.
