Leon & The Peoples New Album "Love Is A Beautiful Thing"
Review: Leon & The Peoples "Love Is A Beautiful Thing" by Jessica Troche
Soulful singer, songwriter, actor and producer, Leon Robinson and his band “The Peoples” recently released their new album, Love is a Beautiful Thing. You may recognize Leon Robinson, who also is known by his first name Leon, from feature films such as, “Cool Runnings”, “The Temptations”, “Little Richard” and “The Rhythm and the Blues.” (just to name a few) Fittingly enough, Leon has come in to contact with a variety of different musical roles giving Leon over a decades’ worth of experience in the entertainment industry and it is with this experience that he produced such a fresh new heartfelt album.
The 11-track album features sultry and passionate vocals led by the lyricist himself, Leon, whilst The Peoples lead a soulful-reggae infused rhythmic flow that perfectly intertwine with Leon’s smooth, heartfelt lyrics. The Peoples’ are made up of a diverse group of musical talent from across the globe which give Leon and The Peoples a unique signature up-beat sound, giving each listener a reason to get up and sway with the rhythm. The band released their first album The Road Less Traveledback in 2006 and received a nomination for the album from the International Reggae and World Music Award back in 2007. They then went on a 36 U.S. city tour with reggae artists, Beres Hammond and Marcia Griffiths. With all their experience and notoriety, it comes as no surprise as to why Leon and The Peoples have been as successful as they are.
Love is a Beautiful Thing, released by the Spectra Music Group is a very diverse album that mixes a variety of genres such as funk, reggae, neo-soul and R&B, a perfect combination to accompany Leon’s charismatic and charming lyrics. It is a varied album that alternates from slow soulful jams to up-beat dance tracks that seamlessly keeps the album groovy and sets the mood for any environment. “Beautiful”, is simply beautiful and is the first track on the album that sets the tone for the remainder of the record. Its hypnotic and groovy bassline with the accompaniment of a piano sets for a mesmerizing song and is kept on repeat for me. The first song in albums are usually the first and lasting impressions that keep listeners intrigued and wanting more and I believe Leon and The Peoples’ Love is a Beautiful thing, did just that. However you’re feeling, whatever mood you’re in there’s a song for you on this album.
Listening to the album, Leon sings about relevant experiences such as heartbreak, love and day to day relationships that I think listeners will find refreshing and find it the perfect type of album anthem for summer. It’s not so often that we come across eclectic, R&B and Caribbean-sounding beats, which I think are what separates Leon and The Peoples from other artists who are from the same variety of genres. Their wit, charm and talent are just a few of the reasons why Leon and The Peoples have been around for over a decade.
