In China, living animal keychains are all the rage. They are packets or globes with colored water, beads and other decorations inside, and a real-life, tiny aquatic animal.... Did I mention they are still alive?  Yes, these keychains have baby turtles, baby salamanders, and goldfish in a sealed off tiny packet, in which they can barely move! The packets have oxygen and the nutrients  for the tiny creature to live of for just a few days, before they die encased and probably attached to a purse or backpack.

In other countries this has happened too. For a while in a different country, live and bejeweled beetles where worn as brooches.

A few people buy a keychain and set the critters free and keep them as pets. But most are unprepared to take care of the pets and they die. But at least the ones that die as pets die free.

These keychains are not the only cruelty China puts upon  animals. They have done  and still do things to animals that I do not want to even want to think about. But I believe that China has literally no respect for animals and their feeling for pain and that they have lives that are as fragile as our own.
