Which Abandoned Wasteland Should You Move To?
We've all seen some lists of the best places to live. Money magazine, US News & World Report, and probably a few Facebook quizzes help the well-to-do and indecisive to choose among the leafy 'burbs of New York or San Fran or Fargo. This is not one of those tests, because you are not one of those people. You prefer the eccentric and the un-ordinary. Maybe you also find a little cathartic comfort in the decaying also-rans of our civilization. This quiz is here for you.

Pripyat, Ukraine
Pripyat, Ukraine
The site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1984, Pripyat is the mother of abandoned industrial wastelands. The city stands as it was the morning of the accident, with place settings and playgrounds awaiting residents who will never return. You should live here because being a little anit-social doesn't mean you aren't practical. Pripyat retains its move-in condition, so long as you don't mind a little radiation. And why would you? You consider yourself invincible. Even if you aren't, it's important to believe in yourself.

Maunsell Sea Forts
Maunsell Sea Forts
Originally constructed to defend England against Germany, these water borne sentries are now the habitat of pirate radio operators and squatters who claim to be sovereign nations. You'd like it here because you value independence, if not complete anarchy. You probably have aspirations to super-villainy of comic book proportions and are in the market for a lair that's easy to defend. Bonus points for a place that was originally built for military purposes.

Detroit, Michigan
Detroit, Michigan
People from Motown would be offended by the inclusion of their home city in this list, but let's remember that those people don't live there anymore. You, on the other hand, have the spirit of an urban pioneer and a passion for transforming lost spaces into something new. You are adventurous and an expert in self defense, which may come in handy. Also, maybe you just love cars from the heyday of American industry.

Lion City, China
Lion City, China
Shi Cheng, or Lion City, lies at the bottom of Qiandao Lake in China's Zhejiang Province. Founded in the first centiry AD, it found itself in deep water when China built a dam, and hence the lake, in 1959. This is the place for true pioneers. To live here you'd need to wear SUBA gear all the time, or be able to hold your breath for just about forever. Oh, did you say that you are an evil genius and have been experimenting with crossing your DNA with frogs and fish? Are those gills on your neck?
