What kind of "Colorado accent" do you have?

"Cot" and "caught" are merging thanks to California influence. Coloradans under 40 pronounce them similarly; both words sound like "cot," or kät. Coloradans over 40 differentiate the words.

Cowell says younger people in Colorado, mostly along the Front Range, are saying the word like "bet." And instead of "bet," people are saying "bat." It's called the "California vowel shift."

An argument for natives... Cowell says locals pronounce the state name with an emphasis on a short "A," like Color-ad-o. People who move here, especially to the Front Range, tend to say Color-od-o.

The ki-ote pronunciation is pretty exclusive to Wyoming and Colorado. People from the East, and California, usually say ki-o-tee, Cowell says.

This one's dependent on where you live. People living on the Eastern Plains are more likely to use the short A - wheelbarr-a. People on the Front Range use the long O.

We'll try our best to spell this. Cowell says this is a newer trend. Younger people pronounce it like "did-ent" or "did-unt." Older Coloradans say "didint," which is more typical across the country.

Another word with the accent coming from the Plains. There, you might hear "drowth" with a th on the end. Otherwise, it's "drout."

This could be another influence from California. Cowell says some people, typically younger, are starting to say "bo͝ots" - rhymes with puts. The more traditional way is bo͞ots.

According to Cowell, most people will say Coors rhymes with yours. A newer trend is "curz." Once again, this could be a California influence.
