Gilmore Girls Part 4
Gilmore Girls Part 4
A Gilmore Girls recap.
A Gilmore Girls recap.
Ally
Molly
She has a beeper?
Ally
That is definitely a beeper. That is Kim Possible-level call me, beep me, if you want to reach me. I loved this time period when you were young when you didn't get a phone, you just got a beeper. Then when you were older you were allowed to get a phone.
Ally
That was great!
Molly
It's definitely different watching it as an adult. When I was a teenager, watching Jess, I didn't like him, I thought he was a jerk. But I also thought he was really smart, that he had it all figured out. And now I'm like oh, he doesn't know anything!
Ally
When I was younger, I thought Jess was the perfect guy. And now watching it I'm like, he's very handsome and that's about it. He's kind of useless.
Molly
Angst!
Ally
I wonder if the show would work, in this day and age. Because Lorelai is this super privileged white lady, complaining about her great rich parents wanting to love her?
Molly
And they do, that's the thing. They're not that cold.
Ally
So would that work, today? I feel like that worked then, that you could have a show that's about a white lady with no problems —
Molly
"Girls."
Ally
"Girls" exists, but lots of people aren't "Girls" fans.
Molly
But a lot of people aren't "Gilmore Girls" fans either. I do feel like there's that line, was it from "The Mindy Project?" "Some things from the '90s will never happen again, like a sitcom with an all white cast?" That era is done.
Ally
Well in this episode we do see the Kim family.
Molly
I still think the greatest mystery in "Gilmore Girls" history, to this day, is where is Mr. Kim?
Ally
Mr. Kim is in lock-down in the chokey. Do you think Mrs. Kim lets him leave that house?
Molly
They're 100% not divorced, and you don't get the idea that he's dead. Yet he's not even at the wedding, so he must be dead?
Ally
Maybe his ashes are in the house, so they talk about him like he's still there, but he's not.
Molly
But I also think, during the teenage years, there'd be a conversation between Lane and Rory, 'Oh, Rory, your dad's not around? I know what that's like. At least your dad's alive.' His absence is glaring.
Ally
I think I forgot how good Amy Sherman-Palladino's writing is. I will admit that. Maybe it's because I watched "Bunheads," and I felt it wasn't anywhere near this good.
Molly
It wasn't.
Ally
I forgot what her writing was like, and I was like, 'I don't really care,' but seeing it again, I'm appreciating it all over again.
