The terms international school, world schools, global schools etc., all refer to IB Schools or schools which follow the IB or International Baccalaureate programs. This program equips students with the relevant diplomas which make them eligible for applying to universities worldwide so that they can continue with their pursuit of knowledge.

The 4 programs currently offered by these schools include the:

  •  Primary years program for ages 3 to 12,
  •  Middle years program for ages 11 to 16,
  •  Diploma program for ages 12 to 16 and
  •  Career related programs.

These programs are so created that they are able to create adults who are socially conscious, responsible and are able to use their knowledge to promote world peace and harmony.

Pros of IB

There are several benefits associated with choosing a world school gurgaon and they are:

  • All round development: IB looks at 360degree development of a student. Thus they are able to get education which is conducive to real life, which can be used to make the world better and which makes kids understand the basic concept of gaining education thereby opting for it freely.

  • Engaged and interested students: The involvement of both the teachers and students in the daily curriculum that is taught makes IB classes much more interesting and engaging for the student. It inculcates a sense of community and also prepares students to opt for higher education on a global platform.

  • Fostering global citizens: The IB curriculum is designed to be in sync with global education policies. They are standardized after painstaking research and thus prepare students to be able to face education challenges with cross-culture education practices. This makes them better prepared to face the challenges of studying in global universities and becoming global citizens.

  • Adaptability: The universality of the IB programs make it suitable for implementation in different settings with minimum hassles. In fact so popular are these programs and today IB Schools have become the better option for most parents looking to send their kids abroad for their higher education.

Cons of IB

Every coin has two faces and so also every education system has its pros and its cons. No academic system is perfect since perfection leaves no scope for improvement and education systems do need to make the required changes regularly to cater to the changing demands of the parents and students on the whole.

Some of the disadvantages that are generally associated with the IB Programs are:

  •  Expense: Gaining admission into a World School Gurgaon or any of the other international schools is an expensive proposition. While only one segment of parents are able to cater to the same, the quality of the programs that are offered and the kind of development that a child undergoes is truly awesome and in some way justifies the cost.

  •  Global approach: This is one of the most common criticisms leveled against IB programs. But then these programs have been created to make it easier for students to complete on a global platform and thus they need to take a global approach for the students to succeed.

Every education program, be it ICSE, ISC, CBSE or the state boards, has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Parents and students need to look beyond assumptions and choose that program which is most conducive to fulfilling their academic dreams.
