Ollie the bobcat broke out of the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. on Monday, and has since been roaming free, evading capture and also, apparently, even notice. Though several D.C. neighborhoods are being searched, Ollie is yet to be found.
Ollie is a 7-year-old bobcat, one of the National Zoo's three, who weighs about 25 lbs. She was last seen Monday morning in her enclosure at 7:30 am. But when zookeepers returned to feed her at 10:40 am, they found that she had vanished a hole in the mesh wall of her enclosure seems to indicate that she escaped by climbing through it and into Rock Creek Park, although officials now believe she may be hiding in Woodley Park or Cleveland Park.
Zoo officials, police, and the D.C. Humane Rescue Alliance are all involved in the hunt for Ollie. If found the current plan is to tranquilize her using a dart gun instead of trying to set a trap, although searchers are also equipped with large nets for a capture attempt. According to Matt Williams, a Humane Rescue Alliance spokesman:
That is the safest thing for the cat because that way it doesn’t have to be handled. They will do what they can to make sure the bobcat is returned safely.

However, officials are also asking people to keep an eye out for Ollie the bobcat. If you happen to see her, you can call the zoo at: 202-633-7362. Admittedly, though, the best part of Ollie's escape has been the Twitter that seems to have popped up to speak for her:

Most of Ollie's thoughts seem to be concentrated on joking about her great escape...
