The night starts young

We like a drink at lunch, in the afternoon and in the evening.

And you'll probably be drinking in one of these pubs

It’s all or nothing though

If one of the group doesn’t get into the pub then you go somewhere else.

Then as soon as you're in get straight to the bar

There's no table service or queue in British pubs so it's really a survival of the fittest.

Remember when it’s your round

You’ll find that not buying your round will be the easiest way to lose friends and make enemies.

Shots don’t count though

If your friend bought you a pint you get them a pint back.

And always order a Guinness first

Trust us, it takes a good minute just to set.

Forget about cocktails

Order a lager and lime and you’ll be shown the door.

You don’t need to tip either

But instead buy a drink for the bartender

"Get one for yourself" means you’ll get quality service all evening.

Don't treat it like an internet cafe

Don’t ask to charge your phone or sit on your laptop all afternoon.

It's not a restaurant either

Pub snacks are limited and whatever you buy you have to share.

Always respect the beer mat

If there’s a beer mat on top of a glass, don’t touch it. The drinker will have nipped out for a cigarette.

Any leftover cash from the kitty goes in the puggy

Your winnings could make or break the night.

Remember pub talk belongs in the pub

Take what the regulars say with a pinch of salt.

And don't forget the landlady is queen

Whatever the landlady says goes. She’ll normally have a baseball bat behind the bar too so when she says you’re out, you’re out.
