What Kind of Homesteader are You?

You want it all; the beautiful, yet functional homestead complete with a large garden, a variety of animals, and food storage. You are most likely to live in the country on an acre or more. You want to be able to grow almost everything on your homestead with enough to share with friends and family, and extra to sell at market! You’re the type of person who is always learning something new and sharing it with everyone around you; essential oils, soap-making, cooking, and more. Be prepared for bumps in the road as you start your journey because nothing is ever perfect, but never lose your homestead vision!

You probably live in the city, but that doesn’t keep you from living a self-sufficient lifestyle! You have a ‘rainy day fund’, grow your own food in the small space you have, shop for plants at the local nursery, and buy your eggs and honey from the farmer’s market. Maybe you have enough space to have your own chickens and bees! You have a small supply of goods you’ve canned yourself that you often give as gifts to your fellow city-dwellers.

Not only do you want to grow your own food and raise your own animals, you want to be entirely free of city utilities. You might use a well for your water, solar panels for electricity, and an outhouse. You might live in a camper, a cabin in the woods, in the country, or a yurt. You rarely shop at the big stores (if ever), and you rely solely on yourself for all of your needs.

Sure, you have livestock and you grow a garden. But you’re not just homesteading, you’re prepping for disaster. You know how to start a fire in the snow, identify plants, use a compass, and a HAM radio. You’re probably a huntress (we’ll just call you Katniss), and you can skin a deer on your own. You don’t need a bug-out bag because you have a bug-out bunker fully stocked with food, water, ammo and a generator.

You might live in a suburban neighborhood and daydream about moving out to the country, but for now you’re happy where you are. You’ve always wanted chickens and you’re thinking about getting chickens since the city allows it. You're more likely to eat out than stay home and cook a meal, but you love to go to the farmer's market if you wake up in time. You have a few herb plants in the house that need watering, but you've kept them alive! You make sure to set aside money from every check for savings, and you love to read gardening books and blogs.
