The Canon PowerShot G7 X is like shooting with a DSLR that fits in your pocket—or as close to that as you can basically get at this point. Like the Canon above, there is a built in selfie display but many bloggers feel this camera is more tuned to video because it can be quieter to operate (the G7 X has a noisy click wheel around the lens).

If you prefer and DSLR camera for vlogging, you will love the Canon EOS 70D‘s incredible autofocus capabilities. The screen on this shooter swings around the side so you can see what’s being recorded if you’re in front of the camera. Since this is considered a more professional camera you will also be able to attach an external microphone—something neither camera listed above is capable of.

The GoPro Hero4 Black is the world’s best action camera. If you want to shoot in smooth 4K (that’s a whopping 4x the resolution of 1080p) you can with double the performance of this GoPro’s predecessor. Easy time-lapse shots, good low-light shooting and SuperView wide angle are a few other standout features. Even finicky sound snobs will appreciate the much improved mic on the Hero4 Black

The built-in cameras on both the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6 are pretty impressive for what they are. They aren’t DSLR’s, they aren’t point and shoots and they aren’t action cams—but they are still very capable. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, for instance, can still shoot 60fps, make incredible time-lapses and can even shoot super slow-mo videos. Whether you are on a tight budget and need to use what you’ve got or simply want a second camera angle, your phone might be just what you need.
