David Doubilet
David Doubilet
You feel at home on a secluded beach or under the sea. Exploring the world's waters, Doubilet has photographed in the depths of such places as the southwest Pacific, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Tasmania, Scotland, and the northwest Atlantic. His work has taken him to freshwater ecosystems such as Botswana's Okavango Delta and Canada's St. Lawrence River. He has photographed stingrays, sponges, and sleeping sharks in the Caribbean as well as shipwrecks. You can hear him talk about his adventures live in Maryland and Colorado! Sylvia Earle
Sylvia Earle
You are a trailblazer. Earle is a true pioneer of underwater exploration. Known as “Her Deepness” for her record-breaking accomplishments beneath the ocean’s surface, Dr. Sylvia Earle has been named a “living legend” by the Library of Congress, and the first “Hero for the Planet” by Time. In fact, this National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence has become such an iconic figure that a Lego figure has been designed in her likeness. You can hear her talk about her adventures live! Enric Sala
Enric Sala
You are a passionate person who will go to great lengths to help others. Sala is a real-life hero for the world’s oceans whose work has made a difference in protecting threatened marine environments. Dr. Enric Sala, a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, left his academic career to lead National Geographic’s Pristine Seas expeditions. These multidisciplinary research projects are designed to find, survey, and protect the last healthy, undisturbed places in the ocean. Sala believes that only when we understand how healthy marine ecosystems work can we help damaged ones recover. Brian Skerry
Brian Skerry
Where others see a beast, you see a noble creature. Skerry has spent more than 10,000 hours underwater using his camera to tell the story of some of the ocean’s most elusive inhabitants. Often Skerry's office is icy, predator-infested water and his uniform a 7mm neoprene wetsuit. Some may see this as inhibiting, but he consistently delivers thought-provoking and captivating images that offer a unique and intimate portrait of the creatures from the deep, and draws attention to the large number of issues that endanger their existence. You can hear him talk about his adventures live across the globe from abroad (Australia and Canada) to across the United States (Seattle and Chicago).
