25 years ago Thelma & Louise blasted their way onto the silver screen and into our hearts. Here are some things about the making of this magical film that you may not have known!

Many Talented Actresses Were Interested In The Lead Roles!
In the beginning, screenwriter Callie Khouri had Frances McDormand & Holly Hunter in mind for the lead roles. After Ridley Scott became attached to direct the movie: Jodie Foster, Michelle Pfeiffer, Goldie Hawn, and Meryl Streep were all considered. Though I doubt any of us can imagine the infamous duo as anyone other than Susan Sarandon & Geena Davis.
Geena Davis Originally Wanted To Play Louise!
In an interview on Entertainment Weekly "Reunions", Geena Davis recalled that she had "[a] year’s worth of passion to play Louise" when she was pitching the idea to Scott. He countered with "Just to be clear, you wouldn’t play Thelma?"
She then said to him "You know what’s interesting? As I’ve been talking, I don’t buy my argument, I actually think I should play Thelma..." and history was made.
Susan Sarandon Was Insistent On The Ending!
When she confronted Scott about possibly changing the ending if it proved too sad for test audiences, he told her "I can tell you that you will definitely die..." but that "You might push [Thelma] out of the car or something." However the ending from the script was kept, and Sarandon was quoted saying "I think by then we had earned that ending".
Davis recalled "It was very emotional for me, and maybe us. It was the last scene of the movie, we had 20 minutes to get it, and we’re going to say goodbye to each other...
I turned and looked at her, I realized the whole experience was over, and I felt really sad."
Khouri Had Doubts About Scott Directing!
Initially Callie Khouri wanted to produce the movie independently with her friend Amanda Temple, and was concerned with turning the film over to Ridley Scott and his production company. She felt with "a real director, it could all come crashing down."
Eventually she agreed if they could get big name actresses to sign, and was paid $500,000 for the script.
It Was Callie Khouri's First Screenplay!
Khouri worked on writing the script for months while producing rock videos in the 80's. She received the film's only Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Later she wrote and directed "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood", and she is the creator of the TV Series "Nashville".
George Clooney Was Considered For The Role Of J.D.
He later admitted that he did not watch the movie for a long time after it was released. He apparently wanted to get out of "a lot of bad TV at the time". Though he also said that Brad was really good and that he would have just messed it up somehow.
