Nothing But the Best for Ice Cube
There was little family favoritism for O'Shea Jackson Jr. The rising star said of his shot at 'Straight Outta Compton' in an interview with PEOPLE, "They put me through the wringer. For two years I was going to acting classes, learning techniques, going to auditions, callbacks, and things like that." Ice Cube added, "I knew that people would think I just gave him the job. So I wanted him to be more than ready. I wanted him to be a great actor by the time we started to shoot."

After earning acclaim for 'Straight Outta Compton,' Jackson Jr. dished to EW about the best advice his father ever gave him. "Be confident," he said. "That’s something him and my mother have pumped into all of us. Be confident in whatever you’re doing, because once you start to second guess yourself or have that hesitation, it won’t be your best effort, and there's nothing you can be pleased with if you don’t give your best effort."
"Thanks, Dad!"
The father-son duo took the stage together at MTV's 2015 Video Music Awards to present the honor of Video of the Year. The two spent just as much time honoring one another as they did the nominees, however, as Ice Cube said it was "so cool" to be presenting with his son and Jackson Jr. added, "Thanks Dad... It was an honor to play you in 'Straight Outta Compton.'"

When 'Straight Outta Compton' hit theaters, Ice Cube told 'CBS This Morning' that Jackson Jr.'s audition process was worth it. "He did a wonderful job," the rapper gushed of his son. "I'm grateful and thankful to my son for doing all that work, you know, it was so much work."
He's Not a Regular Dad, He's a Cool Dad
"Ice Cube's the coolest dad," Jackson Jr. told the AP. He reiterated the point in an interview with 'CBS This Morning' soon after, explaining, "A lot of parents — a lot of kids do not think their parents are cool. Oh, no. My dad's cool... You know, I was born in 1991. That's when 'Boyz n the Hood' came out. So I've always see him on TV. I don't see everybody else's dad, you know. So I've always had a sense of, you know, he's cool. He's in the light."
