You probably don’t spend much time thinking about the health of your eyes and your vision.
When you shop for healthy food you probably consider your heart and your weight more than your eyes. You likewise know that exercise is important, but the muscles you target are more likely your arms or your abs.
However, your vision is something that needs to be nourished and maintained and it’s easier than you think.
Improve and maintain good eyesight with these 7 steps:
1. Eat Right
Your eyes need nourishment just like the rest of your body. Multi-vitamins that contain Lutein, Vitamins E and C and Zinc are available in any drug store and are a convenient way to keep your visual nutrition in check. You can also opt for leafy greens like Kale and spinach to get your fill of Lutein and other vision protecting nutrients.
2. Update Your Prescription
An old prescription can put extra strain on your eyes and cause you to squint, get headaches, or make your eyes feel tired. That’s why it’s important to get regular eye exams and replace your lenses as needed. It doesn’t mean that you have to ditch your old frames though.
You can order new lenses for your old frames in just a few easy steps and save some major cash.
Get Eight Hours of Sleep
Sleep is the answer to so many of life’s problems, and it’s no different with the health of your eyes. In fact, if the rest of your muscles did as much in a day as those in your eyes you’d be pretty exhausted.
A good night’s sleep, preferably eight hours, will give your eyes time to rest and recover from the stress of the day.
Block the Blue Light
These days, everyone spends the majority of their day in front of a screen. You might not even realize how much you stare at a screen, but between your work computer and your cell phone it’s probably more than you think.
The light from these screens can irritate your eyes, but lenses that block the blue light can save you from strain and headaches.
5. Just Blink
Most of the time, you blink without thinking. It’s a habit that you do unconsciously, but a little deliberate blinking can help your vision.
By blinking you give your eyes a quick break and allow them to refocus. This is another great trick to use after hours in front of the screen.
6. Follow A Figure Eight
This exercise helps the muscles of your eyes by putting them to work. All you need to do is picture a sideways figure eight on the wall and trace the pattern with your eyes. Repeat the pattern both forwards and backwards for a few minutes daily.
7. Work the Zoom
You can do this quick exercise anytime anywhere to help strengthen the muscles of your eyes. All you have to do is stand with your arm outstretched in front of you and your thumb up. Focus your eyes on your thumb and then slowly bring your thumb back in towards your face. Keep your eyes focused as your thumb moves within a few inches of your face and then repeat the exercise for a few minutes everyday.
