During the Women's 5000m heat, the race was so close that several competitors were packed together. When one of them, Nikki Hamblin of New Zealand fell, it caused another runner, American Abbey D'Agostino, to stumble as well.

But shortly after helping Hamblin back up, D'Agostino, whose leg had been injured in the initial tumble, fell down again. This time, it was Hamblin's turn to repay her kindness.

The two finished dead last, but as they crossed the finish line, they embraced before D'Agostino was taken away in a wheelchair...

But because they both showed so much of the Olympic spirit, and thanks to lots of protests from both their teams, the two will be able to compete in the final as well! (Although, it remains to be seen whether D'Agostino will be fit to compete.)
