10. “In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

This line might have us all melting on the spot (especially when you factor in Matthew Macfadyen's beautiful little face), but Lizzie was NOT impressed by this declaration. In fact, this little encounter finishes when she declares that he is "the last man in the world [she] could EVER be prevailed upon to marry"

Not to worry though, it's all a horrid misunderstanding brought on by pride and, you got it, prejudice. The pair finally reconcile on a field at dawn, where he tells her he loves, loves, LOVES her. And we love you Darcy. We love you.

9. “But for now, let me say without hope or agenda to me, you are perfect, and my wasted heart will love you...”

Thought by some to be creepy, to the good people of Britain this declaration of love is really rather typical of men who are so beyond expressing their feelings that they can only do it using placards.

We're going to go with Love Actually's declaration of acknowledged, unrequited love as really quite sweet, especially when he walks away after a smooch saying "enough. Enough now."

8. “And at home by the fire, whenever you look up there I shall be. And whenever I look up, there will be you.”

Gabriel Oak is basically the sort of guy we all wished we knew, but to be fair we probably wouldn't be able to handle the levels of romance he lays on Bathsheba in Far From The Madding Crowd.

7. “I love you. I really love you.”

“Ditto.”

Although Molly never had a problem telling Sam how much she loves him, he would always reply with "ditto". So after he dies and returns to her as a 'Ghost' (name of the movie high five!), hearing him finally tell her he loved her and knowing just what Molly would reply with will always bring a tear to our eyes, especially since Unchained Melody is playing in the background.

Why would you do that to us you heartless fiends?!

6. “I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.”

In Notting Hill, we see William reject Anna as she attempts to reconcile with him, claiming he is too afraid of her fame and lifestyle getting in the way and being left behind.

Anna replies with this corker of a line through tears before leaving William to realise his mistake, thus resulting in the BEST 'go get the girl' car chase EVER.

5. “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”

In Wuthering Heights, Cathy and Heathcliffe share the same soul which isn't especially kind or loving, but damn it is passionate and we're guessing that's why we watch adaptations losing it over a couple who are pretty much the absolute worst.

4. “When you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

Through Harry Met Sally, these two do nothing but throw sass at each other as they attempt to make their boy/girl friendship work, so naturally this rare bit of sincerity will all of it's flaws is just perfect!

3. “Winning that ticket, Rose, was the best thing that ever happened to me… it brought me to you. And I’m thankful for that, Rose. I’m thankful. You must do me this honour, Rose. Promise me you’ll survive”

Even though he is in mortal danger, Jack still tells Rose that he is glad he went aboard the fateful Titanic so he got to meet her, and that whatever happens she can't give up and turn into an icicle but to die an old, old lady.

We couldn't hear him very well though, since we were far too hysterical to actually pay much attention to this bit.

2. “I’m scared of what I saw, I’m scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you.”

Dirty Dancing really is so much more than a girl being lifted into the air by an extremely strapping young man.

1. “My heart is, and always will be, yours.”

16% of the population agreed that Sense and Sensibility's sweetest couple Edward and Elinor make the top of the list. When Elinor believes that her one true love Edward (hello again Hugh Grant) has been married and deals with it in her usual way, hiding her feelings to protect the ones around her from her pain.

So when Edward shows up, claims he isn't married and that he loves and wants to marry Elinor, his words and her breakdown is everything we needed to make this one of the best romantic movie happy endings ever.
