5 Home Remedies to Remove Wrinkles on Lips
The face and neck are among the most common places that people suffer from sun damage. In the face, the most vulnerable would be the nose and the lips. While the rest of the face and body can be protected by wide brimmed hats and sunscreen, lips are often forgotten and neglected.
This is a shame though as lips, just like neck and hands, are incredibly telling of a person’s age. To keep your lips from developing wrinkles or to at least lessen the appearance of wrinkles if you have any, below are some tips.

Exfoliate Using Ingredients from Your Pantry

Dry and chapped lips can not only make your lips old, they can also lead to a deepening of the grooves on your lips. Yikes! There are several products on the market that have been specifically developed to exfoliate the lips but do you really want to buy to spend money for that when you can just as easily create an all-natural food-grade lip exfoliant at home? There are several items in your pantry that you can use to exfoliate your lips and our face. You can create these in batches and refrigerate them so that you have an exfoliating mask any time you want to pamper yourself. One of our favorites is using either granulated brown sugar or used ground coffee (fresh please!) and either olive oil or honey. Mix them up until the mixture is goopy but not runny and rub the mixture in circular motion on your lips.
Moisturize using Ingredients from Your Pantry
One of the main reasons your lips become dry and wrinkled is because it’s dry. This is especially true in the evenings when you sleep. Cold weather and conditioning can be quite harsh on the lips. Prevent your lips from getting chapped by applying natural oils at night before you sleep. You can basically use any kind of food grade oil (apart from processed vegetable oils) for this. You can even add color if you like. Here’s a great recipe from Wellnessmama.com:
Ingredients:
2 tbsps coconut oil
1 tbsp beeswax
1 tbsp shea butter
½ tsp red or rose mica powder
Optional: 2 drops peppermint or essential oil
Melt the beeswax and oil on a double boiler, add the colors and essential oils once the beeswax is melted. You can pour this onto empty lip balm tins or small containers.
Create Natural Sunscreen for Your Lips
The other great culprit for aging lips is sun exposure. A bad habit of most people is completely forgetting to use sunscreen on the lips. Lips don’t have a lot of melanin. That’s why they don’t darken or tan as easily as the rest of your face does. This doesn’t mean however that they don’t burn and are not damaged by the sun. To protect your lips, you can take the recipe above and add zinc oxide. If you want it to be completely natural, you might be glad to know that coconut oil has an SPF 4-6, raspberry seed oil and SPF of 25-50, Shea butter an SPF of 4-6, and carrot seed oil and SPF of 35-40.
Drink More Water
You would be surprised by how much and increased consumption of water will affect your lips, your skin and your over-all wellbeing in general. Increase your water consumption to at least 2-3 liters a day. Skip the soda and juice for a while. If you find water boring and want some more taste in your water, you can include fruits like raspberries, lemons and orange slices as well as mint to make your water even more refreshing.
