What are the Ways a Junior Football Player Can Score Points?
Football is certainly one of the most exciting games, that gets both the kids and adults going alike. For children, it is the most entertaining game and they can do anything to get a few extra minutes to play this sport with their friends – clean their room, study more and even help you out in the kitchen works! The excitement level goes sky-high the moment when a team has the football in possession. While the adult players know where to take the ball next and what technique can bring points to their team, the children undergoing junior football training in Bristol or elsewhere, are often perplexed. Should I move? Should I pass the ball? How can my team score points? Several doubts, especially the last one, arise in their little minds.
To make football a bit simpler and more thrilling for all the young players, in this blog, we spill the secret to score more points when playing this team game.
1. Touchdowns: This is the ultimate goal that awards six points straightaway to the team. A touchdown is scored by a team when an offensive player carries the ball or a defensive player moves from anywhere and intrudes the goal line of the opponent with the ball. A touchdown also happens due to a punt, fumble or kickoff. How? When a player retrieves the ball behind the goal line of the opponent.
2. Extra points & two-point conversions: A team can attempt for an extra point just after the touchdown melee. If the player kicks the ball vertically above the goalpost or the crossbar (the distance must be at least 2 yards away from the goal line of the opponent), an extra point is given to the respective team. An attempt for two-point conversion also occurs when the ball is brought on the 2 yard line by the offense and the ball is then moved across the goal line.
3. Field goals: Many coaches conducting pre-school football classes consider field goals as a simpler way of earning points for a team. Three points are scored when a player kicks the ball completely through the goalpost without touching either the teammates or the field. Now that’s a field goal!
4. Safeties: The momentum (impetus) is the key to get two points for safeties. In other words, it is the offensive player’s action that drives thrust to the ball. When the defending team kicks the ball into the opponent’s zone and the ball’s possession remains unchanged, congratulations! The team has scored a safety. A team also wins a safety when the offensive team strikes a penalty that would or else have the ball in its own marked zone. The defensive also gets a safety when a punt that’s been blocked exits the kicking team’s zone following which if the punt receiver kicks the ball to the end zone illegally but the ball gets out of this zone.
Conclusion: These are the four ways that will help a player to score points and bring victory for his/her team. Even children undergoing junior football training can learn these tricks, but first, he/she must learn the various soccer skills and the fundamentals of kicking the ball.
