Baz Warne, the Sunderland-born guitarist with punk legends The Stranglers, is playing the second of two solo shows at the Fausto Coffee in his hometown, with support from Paul Liddell.

6Music presenter Mark Radcliffe, who's been in bands as disparate as Skrewdriver and Shirehorses, brings his songs and stories of middle-aged angst and ennui to The Sage Gateshead.

After a night off on Wednesday, how about a trip to the Surf Cafe in Tynemouth to see Westerman, a London-based singer-songwriter who weaves lyrics that drift between imagined people and real life? He's influenced by John Martyn, Nick Drake and Neil Young if that helps.

Nutopians are a guitar-slinging father and son duo from Sunderland, who have just released their second album, What Does The Future Sound Like?. They'll be showcasing its songs at The Big Jug in Durham.

Newcastle fuzz-pop favourites Baker Island launch their fine new album Restless Legs with a special gig at the city’s Mining Institute, near Central Station. Support comes from rising indie outfit Swine Tax and noise pop merchants Slurs, plus some special guests.

Sunday 10 September

Dave Stewart, the legendary co-founder of Eurythmics, is coming home to Sunderland Empire for a live concert celebrating his 65th birthday. He'll be bringing along his Nashville all-star players Chad Cromwell, Tom Bukovac, Dan Dugmore and Michael Rhodes.
