The 90s was a very, very strange time for children's television.

Weinerville is as insane today as is was back when it was on the air. The show was just a guy's head stuck through a wall that featured these crazy puppets. It was pure insanity and I loved it as a kid. There was more than the big head thing, but that's what everyone remembers.
The series was the brainchild of Marc Weiner, hence the crazy name. Weiner, aside from having a funny name, was a writer on SNL as well as a puppet street performer. He took that energy and create something wildly unique that will never be replicated.

Angela Anaconda was a strange even when it was on the air. The show was about a girl named Angela Anaconda (that's weird enough as it is) and was made from cutout animation. Not only that, but the animation was created from black and white photographs giving the show such a weird feel.
The series didn't last very long, getting only three seasons, but during it's run it was wildly popular so much so that it was marathoned on Fox Kids. The show was so well liked that a feature was created to run before the theatrical run of the Digimon Movie so as to pad the running time.

Nickelodeon shows could fill up their own list with how many weird ones they had. Back in the early days of the network they would throw anything at the wall and hoped it stuck. Space Cases was one such show that I adored, even though it only lasted 2 seasons. As a huge Star Trek fan I loved Space Cases because it wasn't quite as heady as TNG or DS9.
The show is about a bunch of kids sneak onto an alien ship and get propelled light-years from home and they must work to get home. It was a wild concept and featured all sorts of sci-fi guest starts like Mark Hamill and George Takei. It also starred the original Black Ranger and Jewel Saite who would later go on to star in Firefly, another show canceled before its time.

PBS was no stranger to weird show, but at least their shows tried to teach valuable lessons. Ghostwriter was one such show and a favorite of mine, specially since cable was a wild luxury at the time. The show was about a group of kids detectives that has the help from a ghost friend. It was as crazy as it sounds, but the show actually worked!
Ghostwriter could only communicate through writing, using words and letters from the world around it to send a message. Because of this often time his clues had to be decoded which lead to the tension on the show. Likewise, the kids could only talk to Ghostwriter though written messages and he tended to be picky about when he showed up to help. Fun Fact: The first episode featured Samuel Jackson!

Perhaps no other show better defined the early 90s like the Might Morphin Power Rangers. Seeing money, all sorts of networks tried their had at the formula and bought up the rights to various Japanese Super Sentai style shows and mash together their own franchise.
Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, like VR Troopers, is one such attempt, only it featured the fancy and strange world of computers, viruses and hackers. It also featured an Ultraman-like hero fighting monsters in rubber suits inside computer circuits. Oh, and it featured one of the Lawrence brother, another staple of the 90s. To it's credit the villain was voice by Tim Curry!
