Gas pool heaters
These are generally powered by natural or propane gas hence you would need easy access to and have convenient accessibility to either of the two.

You would also need the right gas plumbing to be executed and the required electrical connections made and strictly ensure that it is in conformity with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Gas heaters operate like any other gas fired home water heaters with the generated heat being transferred to heat water which is circulated through the heat exchanger to heat up the water in the pool.

It may be necessary to ensure that the gas heater that you intend installing should have sufficient capacity to bring the water in the pool to the required temperature.
 
Electricity pool heaters
These heaters require a dedicated electrical supply with circuit breakers of 20 to 40 amps depending on the size of the pool and also needs professional installation.

Some aspects of solar heating is used in this system where ambient heat which should be ideally between 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit is absorbed by the liquid refrigerant which is compressed to make more heat which is transferred to heat the water in the pool.
 
Solar pool heaters
Solar panels absorb the Sun’s energy and it is converted to heat energy which then is transferred to heat coils which in turn heats up the water in the pool.

The same principal is used in solar water heaters that are popularly used in homes, the only negative aspect could be that optimum heat from the Sun is required to heat up a pool that is large and above average size.

The cost factor in maintaining solar heaters could be miniscule though the initial installation could be dearer than the other two.
