16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg stared down the President of the United States and even had a post-battle twitter laugh at his expense.
Greta Thunberg, the world-known climate activist of 16, delivered a speech in which she excoriated world leaders for their failure to act on the climate crisis.
"You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words," she said. "And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!"
The speech was hailed by Thunberg's supporters, but she was also mocked and criticized by many. Then her speech caught Donald Trump's eye.
Donald Trump, who is known to be a prominent skeptic of the science behind global warming and has pulled the US out of the Paris climate agreement, decided the best way to deal with Thunberg's call to action was to share a sarcastic tweet about the young activist with his 64.7 million followers.
It read: "She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"
Many came to Thunberg's defense, describing her as an inspiring figure. Celebrities like Mia Farrow responded with great rage and passion, calling Trump out.
Instead of retaliating, Greta subtly and expertly trolled Trump right back.
She changed her Twitter bio to: "A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."
Sarcastic in itself, she left it at that. Her quiet response was met with a lot of praise from supporters.
Isn't that what we are taught at school? Not to give bullies the attention they absolutely crave even if they beg for it?
Well there you go.
