Origin:
Merengue Started from the Dominican Republic. It's the national dance of the Dominican. The most common one is the slaves that were chained together and had to proceed by dragging one foot at one time. Merengue as both beat songs and since the footwork is fairly similar to walking, it's a very easy dance to master.
Music:
Merengue is played 2/4. The dual sided drum can be played one side with a pole to a formidable syncopation to mark the beats. Saxophones and guitars will also be very popular instruments utilized in the music.

Merengue footwork is very simple to learn because it is a simple two beat movement ("left, right") together with your bodyweight being transferred between the thighs.
