Which Character from The Magicians Are You?

I know what you’re wondering -- is this for book-The Magicians by Lev Grossman, or Syfy's The Magicians? The answer is, both!

How do you feel about feelings?

What’s your first response to a tricky magical problem?

Who inspires you most?

What’s your drug of choice?

Favorite snack?

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Which class would you ace?

What would you never leave the house without?

Bonus question: how do you feel about Kady?

Alice

Alice

What changes TV hath wrought on Alice (and there are a few), her baseline is the same. She’s prickly and painfully shy; she’s a freaking genius; and she doesn’t quite know what to do with herself most of the time, except for when she 1000% knows exactly what she is going to do.

Quentin

Quentin

As mentioned previously Quentin is basically the same, with the exception that TV!Quentin is not such a magical prodigy. More than a bit oblivious, nerdy to the core, awkward, but ultimately well-intentioned and good-hearted, Quentin is honestly just trying to get through each day as it happens, preferably by thinking about Fillory as much as possible.

Eliot

Eliot

Oh Eliot, you majestic, insufferable, beautiful unicorn! He is basically the same at heart in either version. Incredibly tender on the inside, he does his best to arm himself with booze, sarcasm, and immaculately selected and tailored clothing. He is there for his friends, and can see right through most of the bullshit the world has to offer to the right solution, but that doesn’t mean he has to be nice about it.

Penny

Penny

If you have only read the books, you are doing a doubletake right now. Penny? When did Penny become one of the main characters? This is my Number One Favorite thing the show has given us: a Penny for the ages. He’s a punk who takes no shit, gives no fucks, cannot BELIEVE the company he has to keep, and oh yeah, turns out to be incredibly important to everything. If he could get over his self-loathing (not to mention his loathing for the rest of humanity) long enough, he could change the world.

Margo

Margo

This character is known in the books as Janet, and yes, I do feel like it’s mostly just a name switch. If Margo ever met Janet in some third pop-culture dimension, they’re so close in personality as to produce another possible golem subplot. Both of them are, obviously, fabulous. Competitive, smart, a little bit lazy and a lot sharp, Margo is in it to win it while having as much decadent, indulgent fun as possible.

Julia

Julia

Like I said, we’re talking about Book One and Season 1 here, ok? We can talk spoilers in another post. So our Julia is the early Julia: bitter as hell that she was rejected by Brakebills, determined beyond anything to get the magical power she was born to wield, sharp and smart and not here for your nonsense. But she’s also learned the hard way that she needs a higher purpose, and she’s getting close to finding it.

Kady

Kady

Kady is both a conglomeration of several book characters and a woman in entirely her own right; she is my Number Two Favorite Show Thing (and only because Penny is just so dang awesome). She’s had it rough, and she doesn’t have a lot of illusions about how the world works, and yeah, sometimes she doesn’t do the right thing. But she cares, even when she doesn’t want to, and she’s learned a lot, and she’s the person you want on your side when push comes to shove.
