When Ron and Hermione wanted to go with Harry to get the Philosopher's Stone despite knowing how dangerous it was.

What made it even sadder was that Harry couldn't believe he had such good friends.

When Ron sacrificed himself for Harry to go on, thinking he was going to die by doing it.

As if he hadn't proven himself a good enough friend...

When Harry thought the Weasleys' home was the best in the world because he only had the Dursleys' as a comparison.

He'd literally never seen a loving family.

When Harry was poisoned by the basilisk and we thought he was going to die trying to save his best friend's little sister.

He was only 12!

When we found out Sirius was innocent and he'd spent twelve years in Azkaban doing nothing but grieving for his best friends.

He had been trying to save Harry all along.

And when Snape made it so that Sirius had to leave Harry all alone again, our hearts broke.

Harry finally had family, but he had to return to the Dursleys' anyway.

When no one believed that Harry hadn't put his name in the goblet – not even his best friend.

Being forced to compete in a life-threatening tournament was bad enough for Harry, but to do it with no support...

When Ron broke Hermione's heart at the Yule Ball out of jealousy.

The first and only moment we disliked Ron.

When Cedric died because he was good and gracious and fair in sharing the cup with Harry.

We sobbed as hard as Harry when he returned the body to Amos.

When Sirius fell through the veil because he couldn't stand by and watch Harry and his friends be in danger.

Twelve years in Azkaban, and killed fighting to protect his godson.

When Ron chose Lavender and broke Hermione's heart once again.

Doesn't he know by now who he should be with?

When Snape killed Dumbledore, despite Dumbledore's quiet plea – which was probably the worst part of the scene.

We know later we misunderstood that plea, but it doesn't help the agony of watching Dumbledore fall from the tower.

When Hedwig was struck down trying to save Harry.

His first pet and loyal companion for the most difficult six year of his life.

When Hermione erases all memory of herself from her parent's lives.

She did it to protect them but they wouldn't be able to recognise her, their own daughter, anymore.

When the trio had to leave everything behind to find the horcruxes.

So young to be fighting a war on their own.

When Ron abandoned them and went back to his family because he couldn't take it any more.

(And then we cried again when he came back.)

When Dobby was stabbed trying to save his best friend.

This death probably hit us the hardest – especially when he said he was just happy to be with Harry.

When we discover about Snape's heartbreaking, brave secret.

He had fought for Lily all along.

When George lost his twin brother and best friend in the battle of Hogwarts and had to be without him for the first time in his life.

And Fred was still smiling when he died...

When Harry walked into the forest, completely ready and willing to sacrifice himself for everyone else.

He was terrified, but he still kept going – his spirit boosted after his mother's ghost told him she'd be with him until the end.

When the heroes finally won in the end.

Because let's be honest, for a second, we thought they might not.
