Sometimes we just want to end it by suicide. We don't really want to end our lives, just the suffering. We are also searching for love.
"I was sitting in my car, and I knew the gas was coming when I had an image of my mother finding me. She sacrificed so much for her children, and to end my life would be an incredibly selfish thing to do. My sense of worth was so low. I had to reprogram myself to see the good in me. Because someone didn't love me didn't mean I was unlovable." -Halle Berry
Most of the time we don't say anything, and suffer in silence, but then there are times when we have to say something. We break down and need to speak up. We find strength in being honest with our struggle. We also hope someone else will feel better if we speak up.
"I'm not the kind of person who likes to shout out my personal issues from the rooftops but, with my bipolar becoming public, I hope my fellow sufferers will know it is completely controllable. I hope I can remove any stigma attached to it, and that those who don't have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it." -Catherine Zeta-Jones
Sometimes our anxiety and panic truly takes over and we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
"I would go to the nurse at lunch most days and just wring my hands. I would ask my mom to tell me exactly how the day was going to be, then ask again 30 seconds later. I just needed to know that no one was going to die and nothing was going to change." -Emma Stone
Sometimes it's situational, sometimes chemical. And then sometimes it's both. Some of us have it for life, just like some people have diabetes or another chronic illness. We want it to go away just as much as you do. But it probably won't. It's not our fault.
"I suffer from depression, and at its worst there was a six-month period in my twenties when I couldn't dress, days when I couldn't leave the house. Anti-depressants helped and so did therapy, but depression is a chemical thing that some people go through. It's always been a part of my life." -Sheryl Crow
Sometimes it takes a breakdown before we can break through.
Usually during this time no matter what you say or do, we will do what we want. If we're getting deeper into the depths of our sadness, and losing more hope, we just might be closer to coming out of it. We may say we don't need you, but we do! We need you BIG TIME.
Most of the time, our depression goes hand in hand with our feelings of worthlessness and low self-esteem. And then having depression makes us feel even more like a failure. Please be patient with us as we learn to love ourselves. It may take a lifetime.
“I struggle with low self-esteem all the time. I have so much wrong with me, it’s unbelievable.” -Angelina Jolie
Trust me. We know you miss the old happy us. But we miss ourselves more.
Just be with us as we are NOW. We are always trying to get back to that motivated, happy, and confident self. If we are still living, that means we are trying. Sometimes it may not seem like it, but the small acts can be huge for us. Like getting out of bed, or eating a meal.
A lot of us with depression feel indifferent much of the time. It is probably the most awful feeling to not care at all. We NEED your help, and your passion to fight the disease. When we can't fight for our happiness, help us and fight for us.
"Death is not the enemy gentlemen. If we're going to fight a disease, let's fight one of the most terrible diseases of all, indifference." -Patch Adams
We need more research done to combat this disease. We don't feel like society believes that depression is a true illness, which makes us feel very alone, and guilty for feeling the way we do.
Depression kills. Suicide is usually the culmination of years of battling depression, anxiety, and mental illness.
