Lilo and Stitch
Lilo and Stitch doesn't get a lot of airtime when it comes to Disney fandom, but this story of a family adopted a strange dog alien just gets you so emotional! It'll send you on a rollercoaster ride and by the end, you'll have a better understanding of what family is. Plus for an alien, Stitch is mega cute.
Into The Woods
Into The Woods wasn't exactly a blockbuster smash, but it's based on a musical that was quite successful by Stephen Sondheim. The music is intense but very melodic and beautiful. The whole movie is set in the woods and has a deep and a little bit dark message that's revealed by the end.
A Bug's Life
A Bug's Life is a total throwback to early Pixar films and it stands up to the films that have followed. It's a true hero's journey and is a whole lotta fun for both young and old. Since Toy Story came out shortly after A Bug's Life, it didn't get as much attention, but take my word for it, it's worth the watch!
Oliver and Company
This one often gets lost in the other more popular dog/cat Disney movies like 101 Dalmatians and Lady and the Tramp but it's such a gem! It's based on Oliver Twist, Oliver is an adorable orange cat orphan who is adopted by a gang of thieving dogs. This movie has New York written all over it, the music is outrageously great and Oliver couldn't be any sweeter!
The Great Mouse Detective
This movie is based on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. It's an incredible tale of two mouse detectives getting an orphan, Olivia back to her father and saving her father from his doom. This movie is full of clever animation and funny quips. If you want a serious sleuthing adventure around London town, this is your ticket.
Hercules
I also have no idea why Hercules is considered underrated because for me, it is probably up there with Aladdin and Lion King. It may be that the story itself doesn't evoke your classic Disney arc, but Hercules is a more serious guy. This movie is all about the music and comedy anyhow, so sit your butt down and watch a true Disney classic.
