Elizabeth Hurley's Safety Pin Dress
This Versace dress was worn by Hurley for the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994, and is widely credited with giving the fashion house its household name status. In 2012, the dress was worn by Lady Gaga – who used a collection of Versace pieces in her music video for The Edge of Glory – to a meeting with Donatella Versace herself.
Cher at the Oscars
Cher is known for her fashion statements – it's what has kept her famous for over six decades. She appeared at the 1986 Academy Awards to present the award for Best Supporting Actor in this outfit – complete with feathered headpiece –designed by long-term collaborator Bob Mackie.
J. Lo's Versace
This may be the most recognisable red carpet look of all time. Six years after Elizabeth Hurley's safety pin dress, Jennifer Lopez brought Versace to the forefront of the fashion world with this tropical-themed dress in the year 2000. The dress is credited with the creation of Google's Image Search – as the dress became the engines most searched-for item at the time.
The Meat Dress
Gaga was the talk of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards when she appeared on the red carpet in a dress made of raw beef. Later in the ceremony Gaga won an award and asked Cher (the award's presenter) to "hold [her] meat purse". The dress has since been treated for preservation in Gaga's archive.
Halle Berry On Display
Ms Berry wore this Elie Saab gown to the 2002 Academy Awards, with a floral pattern the only thing stopping her from exposing herself. During the ceremony she won the Best Actress award for Monster's Ball – becoming the first black woman to take home the award in that category.
