The tether is better

With a tethered motor, your invention's movement is no longer confined to the tight space around the circuit. Stretch your DC motor out to the ends of your mounting board to make rotolamps, artbots, and more.

Introducing VAR mode

The new DC motor comes equipped with 3 modes: clockwise, counterclockwise, and a new variable mode. Variable mode allows you to control the speed and direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) of the DC motor's motion. This allows you to steer cars forwards and backwards!

New mounting possibilities

The new DC motor comes with holes in its plastic casing. These holes allow you to tie the bit to your mounting board using materials like twist ties, pipe cleaners, or string. The motor can also wear two littleBits shoes.

You can make your DC motor extra secure by putting screws into the holes. The mounting holes are also designed to fit with Actobotics™ parts.

Teach the effects of movement

With the Invent an Art Machine lesson, you can ask your students how movement affects the outcome of a piece of generative art. For example, you can ask: What happens when the DC motors are switched between clockwise and counterclockwise? What happens when you move the placement of the motor? New features bring new possibilities!

Now that you know how to use the new, tethered DC motor, incorpoate it into your next invention! If you don't have it yet, you can purchase it here. Happy inventing.
