Rare Photos Of A 19-Year-Old Prince Have Surfaced

Prince's career spanned a period of about 40 years and his music touched millions. However, in 1977 he was just a shy 19-year-old that needed some promo shots. Below is a series of recently unearthed photos that would eventually make up Prince's first press kit.

The photos were taken by photographer Robert Whitman. He said, "I didn’t know anything about him and he was shy and I was nervous. I had no idea what I was doing – I had Prince kneeling by this awful furniture and blowing bubbles. I was trying everything I could think of".

Whitman later recalled, “I knew he was going to do something big when they played me his track Soft & Wet and he performed at his studio. I got goosebumps".

The photos were taken outside Minneapolis’ old Schmitt Music Headquarters.

He may have been shy back then, but he was definitely the same Prince.

At the time, he went by his birth name of Prince Rogers Nelson. A year later he would release his first studio album.

His legacy, his style, and his looks will live on in music history.
