Curly hair is fierce, powerful and makes a bold statement. All the curly haired girls who were told they need to straighten their hair to look more professional can let the curl haters know that they can rock a curly head just as well in a business meeting as they can on a fun night out.
Curly hair tends to be more unruly and harder to contain into a neat pile like straighter hair is. But once you control the frizz and use the right products to maintain your hair, you can nail the worker girl look down to the T.
Whether it’s a job interview, or you’re pitching to a big client, you don’t have to compromise on the texture of your hair. With these simple hairstyles you can bring the best out in your curly self.

Deep side part

If you want to work with the texture and shape of your hair, instead of pulling on your hair to get a sleek look and putting it at risk of getting damaged easily, try this instead. Create a deep side part by taking a small section from the top of your ear and smooth it back with a small comb and some gel. Gently pin it with a bobby pin to the back of your head and leave the ends loose. This will create an undercut look and make it look fierce and edgy.

Twists

If you want less hair on your face but don’t want the strict appearance of pulled back hair, a fun alternate is twists.
Take some light pomade on the tips of your fingers and create neat parts with the tail end of a rat tail comb. Take a 3-inch section of your hair from behind the ear and twist it towards the top of your head. You can do the same on the other ear or leave it on one side. You can even do multiple twists on the crown and leave your hair half open.

Top Knot

This is the most hassle free version you can wear your hair and ensure you don’t damage your curls. Make sure you work with dry hair for this style. A little bit of hairspray on the front of your hairline goes a long way. This will make sure there are no flyaways.
Flip your head and gather the hair at the top of your head. Keep it loose and don’t run your fingers through to avoid damage to your curls. Wrap your hair and use bobby pins to secure it instead of a hair tie. You will have neatly pulled back hair but with your curls intact.
If curly hair can get too much for you to manage on the daily, you can consider weaves or extensions. Maryland’s leading weave specialist Alithea Robinson can help you achieve a more natural look with hair extensions.
