It seems they didn't think the time in a theater would be enough for these tales.

Lethal Weapon
The Lethal Weapon movie franchise featured Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in the starring roles and was extremely popular in the 1980s and '90s. Now the characters of Murtaugh and Riggs have taken on a new life in the television series and is receiving praise from both critics and audiences.
Psycho/Bates Motel
While this may not be a direct retelling and expansion, this may be one of the most popular television takes on a film. It acts as a prequel of sorts, giving more - and creepier - information about Norman Bates, his mother and how he ended up in the position that he was in the film.
Fargo
This cult classic seems to have carried its popularity and fanbase over to the television series, which has taken on an anthology approach and allows the stories to stay fresh each season. Both seasons (so far) have featured a plethora of stars in the cast and has already gained a great deal of interest from critics and award shows.
The Exorcist
This horror flick transitioned to television and while it may not receive the same feedback as the film, it is noted to be just as creepy as its source material. So far, there was only one ten-episode season in 2016 to scare the pants off of viewers.
Training Day
This series takes up fifteen years after the film ended but carries on a similar plot structure as the original with moral ambiguity and police officers being the main focus. However, the show will have to switch gears due to the unfortunate and untimely death of star Bill Paxton in early 2017.
Taken
Sure, you may think that there's no one else in this man's family who can possibly get taken. But that's okay - this one is a prequel, similar to Bates Motel, showing how the man with a special set of skills got to where he was when he was the ever-imposing character portrayed by Liam Neeson.
