West Brom kicked off their life in the EFL Championship with a loss at the weekend, but it wasn't all doom and gloom as one unlikely character stole the show.

The Baggies' game at the Hawthornes saw the home side introduce 'Boiler Man' to the world, West Brom's brand new mascot following their sponsorship deal with a company called Ideal Boilers.

Football mascots aren't exactly a new phenomenon, though: Manchester United (Fred the Red), Arsenal (Gunnersaurus) and Oldham (Chaddy the Owl) are just a few of the clubs who have managed to get football mascots right, but for every acceptable sideline character, there's hundreds of complete abominations.
