You remember going to Ocean City every summer
Ocean City is Maryland's most popular beach, and there is good reason for that, the beaches are (relatively) clean, the Dough Roller always has the best pizza, and the street performers add to the aesthetic of the Boardwalk during the evening.

Maryland get's it's nickname "Little America" for having a wide variety of geographical characteristics. There are mountains in the west, the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and a variety of cities and farmlands. when it comes to locations to visit, Maryland has a little something for everyone.

With the diverse landscapes, Marylanders have an identity crisis.
Depending on where you are, how a Marylander would describe the state identity is subject to change. Some parts of Maryland identify as a southern state, even though Baltimore is a culturally northern city. Maryland was a southern colony and is south of the Mason Dixon, but fought with the north in the Civil War. The identity of Maryland gets even more confusing when someone from Allegany County describes themselves as Appalachian.

With the state's cultural identity being so diverse, one of the first questions you ask someone is "What county are you from?"
The county you're from normally gives a Maryland native an understanding of your background. For example, those in Charles, Calvert, Somerset, and St Marys Counties tend to be more southern and are likely to enjoy boating, fishing, and crabbing. Carroll and Fredrick Counties are rural counties known mostly for corn, and Allegany County is a mountain region with a very strong love for high school football.

Maryland's climate is known for it's extreme weather conditions. from temperatures reaching over a hundred degrees in the summer, to reaching almost negative degree weather in the winter, a Marylander expects the worst of the worst for every season. Never forget the tropical storms and "Snowmageddons" you've braved through in a matter of months.

You know random facts about about Maryland that most would not know about their state.
The Maryland state flower is the Black Eyed Susan, the state bird is the Baltimore Oriole, Baltimore used to be the capitol of the United States, and the state dog is the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Old Bay is a crab seasoning popularized by Marylanders. Sure, the box recommends use for "Crabs, Shrimp, and Chicken", but why stop there? Chips, popcorn, and even peanuts can be found with Old Bay already on them at grocery stores and festivals.

You've screamed the "Oh" at the end of the national anthem at sporting events.
For those who don't know, around the end of the National Anthem, Baltimore natives will all scream when the "oh" when the song reaches the lyrics "Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave?" The National Anthem was originally a poem written by Francis Scott Key while he was on an English boat outside of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812, and it has become so ingrained in Baltimore culture, we scream during the anthem.

You understand Baltimore may not be the safest place to live.
Baltimore does have it's problems; including an insanely high crime rate, poverty rate, and a corrupt police force. Most people consider Baltimore to be a rough place to live and one of the most dangerous cities in the United States.

Baltimore has a distinct culture that will stick with a native forever. from the city's accent, to picking crabs in your backyard, to cheering on the Ravens and Orioles at every opportunity; this City has an impact on those who live nearby. For those who have been around the area long enough, they can see a little bit more than meets the eye.
