You find yourself playing a football game. During a play, you see a large halfback running straight towards you, and you have to make the tackle. What is your reaction?

Are you in it for the glory, or for the team?

How well do you know football?

How intelligent are you?

About how fast is your 40 yard dash time?

Which of these skills are you best at?

How are your leadership skills?

How tall are you?

How much do you weigh?

How agile are you?

Overall, how athletic are you?

How strong are you.

Quarterback

Quarterback

Quarterbacks are primarily responsible for passing the ball to a receiver or handing the ball off to a running back. Quarterbacks are usually the most recognizable players on the team, and possess high intelligence and strong leadership.

Running Back

Running Back

Running backs are primarily responsible for taking hand-offs from the quarterback, but will occasionally catch passes as a receiver. Running backs are the fastest men on the team, but must also be capable of blocking for the quarterback if pass protection is needed.

Receiver

Receiver

Receivers are responsible for catching balls thrown by the quarterback, but may rarely take hand-offs. Receivers are the best at catching, and are also fast enough to get away from defensive backs. Receivers are generally taller. Larger receivers that are capable of blocking may be lined up as a tight end.

Offensive Lineman

Offensive Lineman

Offensive linemen are the most intelligent, biggest, and strongest men on the field. Offensive linemen handle the dirty work for the offense by blocking for their teammates. Without a good offensive line, a team's offense collapses. However, playing on the O-line is a thankless job, and offensive linemen must be willing to work for someone other than themselves.

Defensive Lineman

Defensive Lineman

Defensive linemen are big and strong, yet must also be fast enough to chase down running backs and move laterally. Defensive linemen engage the offensive linemen to fill running lanes, rush the quarterback, and stop the offensive linemen from blocking the linebackers. A defensive lineman must be willing to hit hard on every play, and defenses with good D-lines are typically much more successful.

Linebacker

Linebacker

Linebackers are primarily responsible for stopping the run, but are also responsible for defending the middle of the field in passing situations. Linebackers must be fast and agile enough to keep up with running backs and cover receivers, but must also be big and strong enough to shed blocks and tackle strong running backs. Linebackers are generally good leaders, and are sometimes called the "quarterbacks of the defense."

Defensive Back

Defensive Back

Defensive backs are primarily responsible for covering the receivers to defend against the pass, but may also provide run support for the linebackers. Defensive backs must be very fast, agile, and athletic. Size is not as important when playing defensive back.

Coach

Coach

You may not be big, strong, or fast enough to play football, but you can still stay close to the game by becoming a coach. Coaches know every in and out of football, and play an important roll in the team's success without ever stepping on the field. Coaches must be intelligent and strong leaders.
