Programmer
Programmer
You are logical and you love a good challenge. You put all of your effort into your work, and you would make a great programmer.
Tips: Start simple with your career. Don't automatically go for creating things with advanced engines. Here are some very good programs:
-TyranoBuilder - (for making visual novels) If your just starting out, you should start with TyranoBuilder. It is simple and requires almost no knowledge of coding language.
-Macromedia Flash (Adobe Flash) - (for making falsh games) This is a great tool for making all sorts of flash games from dress-up to visual novels, and more...
-Unreal Engine - (interactive games) The Unreal engine is one of the best and most well-known engines ever. It was used to Gears of War, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Mass Effect, Injustice, and many other popular games.
Audio Engineer
Audio Engineer
You have a good ear and are very musical, so consider becoming an audio engineer.
Tips: Start simple with your career. Don't automatically go for creating things with advanced technology. Here are some very good programs:
- VLC media player - When other programs let you down, you can always count on VLC media player. No matter what, VLC has always been a safe and working program for me, and it is completely trusted. I will always use VLC media player because it can convert audio files to other audio files, play audio and videos... If you don't already have VLC media player, it is strongly recommended that you get it!
-Audacity - If you're going to be recording your own music, use audacity. It's a simple, great program that can help you get really far with your career.
-KeepVid (http://keepvid.com/) - KeepVid can help you get really far with your career... Download songs and audio from Youtube and other videos by copying their URLs. (be careful with KeepVid-- there are many malicious ads on KeepVid trying to get you to click on a false "download" button that leads you to harmful programs. Make sure you know what is an ad and what is the actual download button on KeepVid... Go to the top bar and paste the URL, and then press "ENTER" on your keyboard. directly below the thumbnail of the video, click on a download on the list starting with MP3)
Artist/Animator
Artist/Animator
You are creative and artistic, making you a perfect match for the career of a game artist/animator.
Tips: Start simple with your career. Here are some very good programs:
-BeFunky Photo Editor (https://www.befunky.com/create/) - Ever since the start of my game-making career, I have always used BeFunky. BeFunky is a simple, stress-free image editor. One of the best parts is, you don't even have to download a program-- it's all in your web browser. Even better-- it's free! (unless you count the BeFunky Plus features, which I think you have to pay for...)
-MyPaint - MyPaint is a fun painting program that allows you to create art on your computer. I have always used MyPaint, and I love how there are so many options for brushes: from your regular pencil to blur and puantilism effects! It's great (and I think it's free!) ...if you don't already have it, I strongly recommend downloading it!
-Paint - Paint is an extremely handy program that (I think) comes with and Windows PC. It is SO helpful, and I have used it for as long as I've owned a computer.
-Picasso - (an app) I have Picasso on my kindle, and it's so easy to just take my kindle with me on vacations (when, of course, I can't take my whole PC), and still be able to draw with the Picasso app!
Tester
Tester
I know that when you get the result "games tester" it doesn't always sound the most exciting... However, this is perhaps the most important job in the gaming industry. You are methodical and careful, as well as super neat, so you would make an excellent game tester!
Tips: Here are some things you can use for a game testing career:
-OneNote - OneNote is an excellent tool for keeping note about bugs and glitches in a game, and I use it to do just that. This tool is actually a great reminder for all jobs-- not just this one!
Game Writer
Game Writer
You are creative and you have an extremely powerful imagination, making you a good writer. From Sci-Fi to Fantasy to a cartoon mash-up-- you can right it all!
Tips: Plan out a story-line before you delve deep into creating it... It always helps me to make a list of regular things that can happen in every-day life and weave those elements into my book. You have to think about a character's emotions and how you can balance them, because if a character is constantly mad all the time (unless it's part of their backstory) the game will just be... mad. You want a well-balanced game. Here's some software that can take you far:
-Microsoft Word (2010+, preferably) - If you don't already have this, this is a great tool to write your story-lines with. You can choose any font, and there are so many options, but you should start with the basics first. This offers a wide variety of symbols you can insert into your story, too.
-Google Docs - Many people use Google Docs to create their stories and share them with their game-developing group. Google Docs is great for sharing things, and your group can (if you allow them permission to with the settings) comment on and edit your stories. This is great for a game-developing group! (Google Docs has a voice-recognition writing thing, just like the next program...)
-Dragon Naturally Speaking (13+, preferably) - Dragon Naturally Speaking is a tool that has voice recognition and allows you to speak into your microphone to dictate the story while your computer types up what you are saying onto the screen... It's like writing with your voice! (Google Docs has this feature, too)
Producer
Producer
You are a true leader, which would make you a great Producer. You like to take charge of people and organize them, and that is what a Producer does...
Tips: Don't let the team finish a game later than the deadline! It's your job to make sure they have completed their project by then!
