Go to sleep around the same time every night

Set your alarm at night and make sure your start time allows you atleast 8-9 hours of sleep.

2

Avoid distractions such as TV, Cells or computers

These are all just distractions. They're bright, can be loud and watching the screen alone can keep you awake even after putting them away. So just avoiding them all together is advised for a great nights sleep. If someone is using one of the above around you while you are trying to rest use ear plugs, soothing music, or sleep in a seperate room.

3

As hard as it is avoid naps entirely

Napping feels great and you feel refreshed after but not for long! Napping during the day screws up your sleep schedule and not allowing you to sleep at normal times. So if you're feeling sleepy do a physical activity, listen to upbeat music, go for a walk. Just keep yourself awake you will thank me later when you have a restful sleep and wake up feeling like a million bucks.

Getting ready for sleep is not just about throwing on Jammies and getting under the blankets.

There are a bunch of factors that could be keeping you awake at night such as: your room being way too warm or cold. A room between 60-67 degrees is said to be the perfect temperatures for sleep. Here is an obvious one yeah that person who is still watching loud tv or playing music will probably keep you from a good nights rest. You can wear ear plugs, listen to some soft music or ask them to turn it off or even sleep in a seperate bedroom if available.

If you must eat something eat something very light like a salad or maybe a bowl of fruit

No big meals, I understand nightly cravings they come on from time to time with me as well, but eating a large meal before rest can upset your stomach and make you uncomfortable and restless. Eating something light like a bowl of fruits or veggies or a small salad will get you full but keep your stomach acids at bay.
