AFC South: Which team should you support?

League newbies, having only joined the NFL in 2002. It took them a long time to get going but their recent success has been built on a truly dominant defence, the shining light of which is the imperious J.J. Watt.

So much of the Colts’ fortunes depend on fitness and form of quarterback Andrew Luck. He took over the reins from future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning but has yet to truly deliver on his undoubted potential. Manning, meanwhile, led the Colts to their only Super Bowl success in 2006, though, like Arsenal, their dominant team of that decade should arguably have won more. Similarly, a now leaky defence prevents them from more consistently challenging.

Like those ‘happy’ Hammers, Jaguars fans have had it rough in recent years, regularly posting one of the poorer records in the league. And then, finally, it seemed they were poised for great things in 2016, set to challenge with a talented, young team, only to once again flatter to deceive in another horror-show of a season. If the sun is to again shine on the team like it does in Jacksonville, improved play by quarterback Blake Bortles is key.

Came within a yard of Super Bowl success back in 2000. That’s the closest the team has got to the title but, much like the Kevin Keegan-led Newcastle of the nineties, fans have been starved of success since that brief flirtation. There is cause for optimism again though as up-and-coming quarterback Marcus Mariota leads a meaty looking Titans offence that is set to make sweet music in Nashville.
