Ramones - Seal

Band t-shirts don't get any more iconic than the ever-popular Ramones t-shirt, featuring the band's signature seal logo. This one was designed in the 70s by New York artist Arturo Vega - a true classic.

2

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

This is right up there with the Ramones' as an all-time classic. The image itself was selected by Joy Division drummer Stephen Morris, who saw it in the Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Astronomy. It depicts a stacked plot of radio signals from a pulsar - but you knew that, right?

3

Nirvana - Smiley

Any teenager in the 90s who was a bit alternative owned one of these. The t-shirt was apparently created by Kurt Cobain himself, who loved to draw and paint and was always doodling. Like the Seattle band's classic Nevermind album, this t-shirt still sells by the truckload.

4

Rolling Stones - Lips logo

The iconic Stones t-shirt was inspired by Old Rubber Lips himself, Mr Mick Jagger. Designer John Pasche created the Lips logo t-shirt for the band in 1971, and it originally appeared on the Sticky Fingers album cover before going on to become one of the best-loved band t-shirts of them all

Wham! - Choose Life

An 80s classic. This one was designed by leading fashion designer Katherine Hamnett and it became a huge seller after it was worn by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley in the video for their 1984 chart-topper, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.

6

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Frankie Say Relax

So close is this one to the Wham! t-shirt (see above) that many people think this, too, was designed by Katherine Hamnett. It was actually the creation of Paul Morley, music journalist and co-founder of ZZT (Frankie Goes To Hollywood's record label). A shameless rip off though it may have been, it was still hugely popular.

7

The Who - Target logo

The Who commissioned British artist Brian Pike to design what became their famous logo for a poster advertising a gig in London. They got their money's worth, that's for sure. The image was never featured on a studio album cover, but to this day is worn as a badge of honor by Mods everywhere.

8

Run DMC, logo

A simple black t-shirt printed with Run DMC's logo in red and white, but an absolute must-have for any self-respecting hip-hop or old-school rap fan.

9

Sonic Youth

This one features the cover of Sonic Youth's 1990 album, Goo, and features an illustration by Raymond Pettibon based on a photograph of Maureen Hindley and David Smith, who were key witnesses in the 1966 trial of Moors Murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.

Led Zeppelin - 1977 US tour

Led Zep's 1977 tour was one of the most riotous in rock music history, with stories of hotels and restaurants being trashed by the hell-raising band. If you own an original one, you are cooler-than-thou. The rest of us can dream of what it must have been like to be there.
