Some critics commended the song for being a highlight from the album "Laundry Service"....The song was a huge success on the charts, topping the charts of over six countries, while also reaching the top-ten in more than fourteen territories, including the United States, where it became her third most successful single there, behind only "Whenever, Wherever" (2001) and "Hips Don't Lie" (2006). The song is also listed as one of the twenty biggest-selling singles of the 2000 decade with sales of over 6 million copies.
She claimed, 'I just felt that was part of my destiny and I had to fulfil it. I knew I had to jump into a pool of cold water without even knowing how to swim, and I learnt. Songwriting is such an intricate part of me as an artist and as a person; I couldn’t just let someone else do it."
Shakira wrote "Underneath Your Clothes", a love song about her relationship with Antonio de la Rúa. She explained that, "If you check the subject of my songs, most of them talk about my own experiences and feelings and what I was actually going through in my life."

Shakira described the song as a feminist anthem, saying:

"I think 'Don't Bother' has a lot of pain in it as a song, but also a lot of humour and sarcasm. Yes, it is a way of exorcising all of these feelings, a form of catharsis, getting rid of all of those emotions that torture us women at some point in our lives"

"Ojos Así" became extremely popular in Latin American countries and is one of Shakira's biggest hits in Spanish. It was also one of Shakira's smash hits in Romania.
Shakira's 2001 English language debut album, Laundry Service, features an English version of the song titled "Eyes Like Yours", which is believed to have been recorded around the same time as "Ojos Así" when Shakira was considering translating her Spanish material. "Eyes Like Yours" contains no differences from "Ojos Así" besides each song's respective language (both still feature the Arabic). The rough, yet literal (in most places) translation of Ojos Así was written by Shakira and Gloria Estefan, and was most likely recorded as far back as in 1998. "Eyes Like Yours" has an unreleased music video that was filmed around the same time as "Ojos Así"'s (as Shakira looks the same in both videos). A clip of this unseen video was released on a promotional CD for "Laundry Service", only a minute in length, and containing very few shots of Shakira singing in English.
