Everyone knows an award show is only as good as its host. The great ones leave an impression for years to come (like thee-time Golden Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler), but the bad ones leave something to be desired (like Neil Patrick Harris at the 2015 Academy Awards). Luckily, Andy Samberg was funny and entertaining. He opened the show with a musical tribute to binge-watching and got the crowd laughing from the start. The former "Saturday Night Live" cast member proved to be a natural for the hosting job, reacting well to the live audience and keeping his cool for the duration of the show. One of Samberg's funniest moment of the night was his reference to the diversity of the nominees, joking that "racism is over," but "don't fact-check that."

These past few years have been big ones for the transgender community. The real stories of "Orange is the New Black" actress Laverne Cox and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner have made the discussion more public and uncensored. Jeffrey Tambor has also helped the transgender community with his portrayal of Maura Pfefferman on Amazon's "Transparent." Tambor dedicated his award and his performance to the community and thanked them for the patience, their courage, their stories and their inspiration.

It takes a lot out of a person to lose an award six years in a row. Amy Poehler has been nominated for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series" for her portrayal of Leslie Knope on "Parks and Recreation" since 2009. Since the show ended in February of 2015, this marked her last chance to win an Emmy for the role. Poehler proved that she's too cool to care, wearing a hoodie and sunglasses while her category was announced. Julia Louis-Dreyfus of "Veep" took home the award, but Amy Poehler was the true winner of the night.

In a night full of funny, Uzo Aduba brought out some real emotions. The "Orange is the New Black Actress" won her second Emmy for her role as Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren. Last year, the show was classified as a comedy, but new Emmy rules say that it's a drama. This makes Abuda the first actress to win both a comedy and drama award for the same role. Abuda gave a tearful acceptance speech, thanking her family, friends, and cast members. She also gave special recognition to the show's creator, Jenji Kohan, saying, "If I could say thank you a thousand times it would not be enough to cover the amount of thanks​ for you."

Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan made a surprise appearance and presented the award for "Outstanding Drama Series." Morgan was critically injured in car crash in June of 2014 and has mostly stayed out of the spotlight to focus on his recovery. The comedian was emotional and thanked everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers. He ended his speech in typical Tracy Morgan style, joking that "a whole lot of women are gonna get pregnant at the afterparty" now that he is feeling more like himself.
