Real Madrid travel to the capital of Italy to take on AS Roma in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. The Spanish powerhouse are expected to sail through to the next round as nobody is giving their opponents any real chance. The Giallorossi always seem to choke in the knockout stages but one team that they've fared well against is the Los Blancos. Roma 1-2 Madrid, September 11, 2001 (Group A)

Apart from the fact that this day was remembered for reasons not having anything to do with sports, Guti and Figo found the back of the net for the Los Blancos before Totti scored a late consolation penalty.

Once again, Totti found himself on the scoresheet as Roma drew 1-1 with Madrid at the Bernabeu Stadium. This was enough to see Roma make it through to the the second round of the group stages, finishing two points ahead of Lokomotiv Moscow.

Ronaldo and Figo tore their opponents apart in this very one-sided game. Luckily for Roma, the players were saved the humiliation as the match was played in an empty stadium where Madrid ran riot. It was classic performance by the Galacticos with the likes of Ronaldo, Beckham, Owen and Zidane contributing.

Roma came from behind after Raul opened the scoring thanks to goals from David Pizarro and Mancini. Advantage Roma.

Roma famously ousted the Real Madrid side with another 2-1 victory. Goals from Rodrigo Taddei and Mirko Vučinić were enough to make Raul's second half strike count for nothing.
