New partners
The Project-Coordinator and volunteers have been expanding the non-formal placements in Zanzibar; finding exciting new placements for the project, including TUEPO pictured here. TUEPO support unemployed young people in Zanzibar by offering workshops on training on a variety of topics including English, IT skills, Entrepreneurship and Employability. Volunteers have been working alongside staff supporting creative learning of youth issues in these sessions.

VPP goes from strength to strength
This year 2 volunteers from EdLITE have been working alongside Tenteleni volunteers as part of the Volunteer Partnership Programme (VPP). Nassor has been involved with VPP for several years now, he keeps returning to volunteer again because of the skills and experience he gains. He is now looking to apply for further studies in Tanzania and we wish him the best of luck! Haji is completely new to VPP and although he found it challenging at first working with his project partner across different languages and cultures, he developed a good relationship with his partner and is keen to support more volunteers to be recruited next year!

Debating brings the community together
Volunteers and students have enjoyed debating in their placements so much, the group organised a community-wide debate with participants from both formal and non-formal project placements, as well as local NGOs. Placement Heads thought this was a very clever way to support community integration and have commented that they now feel better placed to work together with one another once the volunteers return home.

Extra-curricular English clubs help students to develop their skills
Volunteers have been involved in all aspects of school-life and have been supporting students both in and out of the classroom. English clubs such as this one pictured here at Mfeneseni School have allowed the volunteers to help the students with soft skill development through supporting their English learning. Students have commented that the confidence they developed through working with the volunteers is now positively impacting the rest of their studies.

Volunteers help encourage learning through sport - Football Tournament
Some of the volunteers have found it helpful using sport to engage students in life skills. The students reported they found it easy to build a positive relationship with the volunteers through talking about football and this culminated in a football competition organised by one of the volunteers between several of the project placements. The day was a great success and the schools reported that it improved the student’s motivation, as well as fostering stronger links between communities.
