The Llantwit Major Rugby Club is a Welsh Rugby Union member and is believed to have been around in the late 19thcentury – as far back as 1889 according to records. Despite being disbanded during World War II, the club was reformed shortly after, and by 1962 had already gained its membership to the Welsh Rugby Union.
The LMRCFC currently manages two senior and one Under 19 teams as well as a full Junior and Mini section with separate management. The club also partakes in the Half a Game initiative, pledging at least half a game of rugby to every junior player weekly, thus recruiting and retaining more children in the game through focusing less on the results and more on taking part in the game. This ground-breaking initiative not only ensures equal opportunities for minis and juniors, but it also serves the club in the long term as an investment in future senior players – an added perk which ties well into Llantwit Major being a feeder club for the Cardiff Blues.
Llantwit Major RFC’s first team is heading into the New Year with a new kit, the purchase of which was supported by Topstak as their main sponsor – shortly before Christmas the players paraded their kit for the first time at home at their game against Cowbridge. They have now started 2017 with renewed vigour and eagerness to win which matches their new attire.
Topstak and the Llantwit Major RFC share an excellent relationship they are looking to maintain in the years to come, not just throughout 2017, as testified by L.M.R.F.C Chairman Paul McGinn’s personal note to the company:
‘I would like to take this opportunity in thanking Topstak for the sponsorship in which we are truly grateful and if it wasn't for local businesses like yourselves the local rugby club would find it increasingly difficult to survive. We hope that the relationship we have may continue for the foreseeable future. We will keep you updated about future games, to which we will be inviting all sponsors to the club, although you and your staff are most welcome at any time.’
