Located on the open field on the west side of Jenkins between the softball field and Constitution, this is the place for food, fun and Sooner Family fellowship each and every home game.
Saturday, we braved the heat, met up with Chad and Lindsay Robertson (the owners of this fine gem), ate the best food we've ever had (which is themed to go with each and every opponent OU faces), snapped some pics and asked some questions so we could share it all with you!
Speaking of games, what kinds do you have?
The classic corn hole game, giant connect four, nail driving contests and a new one for us this year is called Kubb, which is a combination of bowling and horseshoes. Some people call it "Viking Chess." We also have a special wall for patrons to sign. We'd love to get it filled this season!
How does this all come together week after week?
This tailgate wouldn't be able to happen and definitely wouldn't be the quality tailgate it is without some really special people. First, my wife for letting me spend the time and money on this hobby of mine. Second, my dad, Larry, and the guys at his shop for the countless hours they've spent working on the Nomad to make sure it performs for us each week. Third, our gourmet chefs: my Uncle Clarke and my Aunt Debbie for making the extravagant meals for our crew each game. Their food is guaranteed to be THE BEST at any tailgate on campus. And best of all, it's almost always themed for each opponent!
Anything else?
I have to recognize the guy who has literally poured blood, sweat and tears into making the Nomad what it is, and that is John Wingard. He is responsible for the complete renovation of the Nomad, the renovation of the food trailer, and the creator of every custom game (nine or 10 of them) that we have. The guy has put several hundred hours of work in this, and he's done it all for nothing more than a thank-you. Needless to say, he eats for free on Saturdays.
