Shortness of breath

The shortness of breath in heart failure is caused by the decreased ability of the heart to fill and empty, producing elevated pressures in the blood vessels around the lung. Common symptoms of heart failure are difficulty in breathing when lying down (this is a specific symptom of heart failure), necessity of propping up the head of the bed with many pillows, wakefulness at night with shortness of breath, cough at night or when lying down, shortness of breath with activity, swelling of ankles or legs, unusual fatigue with activity, and fluid weight gain. via American Heart Association http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/108/2/e11.full

Dizziness or lightheadedness

Blood flow to the brain may be reduced when the heart rate or rhythm is abnormal (too slow or too fast) or when the heart cannot pump blood adequately because blood flow is blocked, for example, by narrowing of a valve. It could also be due to a heart attack. Dizziness, especially when standing up quickly, is an extremely common symptom for people with heart failure. via HeartFailureMatters.org

Nausea

Heart attack sufferers sometimes experience feeling sick to their stomach, with or without vomiting. Many heart attack symptoms are thought to be flu symptoms and are not taken seriously.

5

Heartburn, indigestion or abdominal discomfort

Sometimes people mistake stomach pain that signals a heart attack with heartburn, the flu, or a stomach ulcer. Other times, women experience severe abdominal pressure that feels like an elephant sitting on your stomach, says cardiologist Nieca Goldberg, MD, medical director of the Joan H. Tisch Center for Women’s Health at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York. via WebMD http://wb.md/1O3LAnF

6

Sweating

Breaking out in a nervous, cold sweat is common among women who are having a heart attack. It will feel more like stress-related sweating than perspiration from exercising or spending time outside in the heat. "Get it checked out" if you don't typically sweat like that and there is no other reason for it, such as heat or hot flashes, Bairey Merz says. via WebMDhttp://wb.md/1O3LAnF

7

Tightness, pressure or pain in the throat, jaw, shoulder, abdomen, back, or arm

This type of pain is more common in women than in men. It may confuse women who expect their pain to be focused on their chest and left arm, not their back or jaw. The pain can be gradual or sudden, and it may wax and wane before becoming intense. If you're asleep, it may wake you up. You should report any "not typical or unexplained" symptoms in any part of your body above your waist to your doctor or other health care provider, says cardiologist C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, director of the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. via WebMD http://wb.md/1O3LAnF

8

Heart palpitations

Palpitations are the sensation of the heart beating rapidly or irregularly. To "make up for" the loss in pumping capacity, the heart beats faster or may skip beats. via American Heart Association http://bit.ly/1RrsP4g

9

Chest pain or discomfort

Chest pain is the most common heart attack symptom, but some women may experience it differently than men. It may feel like a squeezing or fullness, and the pain can be anywhere in the chest, not just on the left side. It's usually "truly uncomfortable" during a heart attack, says cardiologist Rita Redberg, MD, director of Women’s Cardiovascular Services at the University of California, San Francisco. "It feels like a vise being tightened." via WebMD http://wb.md/1O3LAnF
